Storage Tips: A Guide
Wine Storage Tip #1 - Exposure
to air can quickly cause any wine to turn to vinegar.
To prevent this from happening, be sure to store wine
horizontally so that wine stays in contact with the
cork.
Wine Storage Tip #2 - Temperature
is one of the most important factors to consider when
storing wine. Optimal white wine storage temperatures
are between 40-52. Red wines should be stored
at approximately 55-65.
Wine Storage Tip #3 - Proper
humidity is important to keep the corks from shrinking.
70% humidity is recommended but a range of 50%-80% is
acceptable.
Wine Storage Tip #4 - Light can cause
wine to prematurely age. If you need to put lights
in your wine cellar, incandescent lights are recommended.
Wine Storage Tip #5 - Your wine storage space
should be free from outside odors. Odors can permeate
the bottle and contaminate the wine. Wood racking
should be left untreated (or allow ample time for odors
associated with finishing to disappear) and proper ventilation
should be put in place.
Wine Storage Tip #6 - Once you store
your wine, leave it be. Once stored, try not to
move your wine until you are ready to enjoy it.
